Furnishing our apartment

Now that we have an apartment, it is time to furnish it. Originally, we were going to rough it with a blow up mattress and whatever we could use to put our computers on, but we decided we would see how inexpensive we could furnish our apartment. We started out looking for a television on Craigslist. We found a listing where this person was selling her television and its stand for $85. It's a 32 inch Sony that weighs close to 100 pounds, but there was no way I could pass that up! Take a look:

The young woman selling her television could not use it in her apartment and we went to the fourteenth floor of the tallest building in Brooklyn to get it.

After getting the thing in the car, we went to a flea market they hold in this old building. It used to be the vault of a bank and they sell all sorts of random things in there. She recommended that we try a local food treat called Popusa, so we did. They were grilling these on site, and inside these things were cornmeal, chicken, spinach, and cheese and possibly some other ingredients. It really didn't matter because they were delicious! After, we ate we went across the street to a two story Target. Jenn was really happy about this, but the place was so packed that the excitement didn't last long.

Here is another interesting thing about New York. I am not sure when I last saw an ice cream truck, but they are all over the place here. This one was outside the building where we got the TV. You should see grown men running to catch ice cream trucks. It's quite a sight.

From there we went to a place called IKEA. This place sells just about anything you need for your residence. They have items for all income levels it seemed and we were amazed by this place. We were able to buy a futon, lamp, love seat, coffee table and a nightstand for around $500. We of course had to transport it and put it together, which took two trips in our Mazda 6, but it was well worth it. If you are wondering how it is possible to fit a bed and a love seat in a Mazda 6, well it barely fit, but we did it. IKEA packs their products so tight that we worked it inside the car. Here is a picture of the finished products in our living room, complete with a small throw we'll use to keep the love seat clean:

I wish we had one of these places in Manhattan, Kansas, but I would guess there is not enough people to support it. Maybe we will get one in Kansas City.

These are just some of the things we have in Brooklyn, which is the borough we live in. Next I will dive in to a day wandering around Manhattan including Times Square.
